My first "free" Sunday

Alright. As you can see, I need to update my blog a little bit better. However, I have a reasonable excuse...Matt made me do it! (not really, but let's just blame matt because he is the only one that doesn't have a blog, so he can't retaliate)
So first up, School has been somewhat strenuous, but I think that's mostly because I am also working simultaneously. Early mornings and somewhat late nights, are killers. But no worries, I work in the afternoon next semester. But, my life will end because I'm taking Calculus 112. I didn't understand it last semester, I hardly believe that I will understand it this semester. On January 4, I will be walking into the lions den, hopefully I can pull a "Daniel" and shut their mouths. Next semester I will be taking Calc, Geology 112, and two religious classes. Second Book of Mormon and second half of the New Testament. I'm done with my Freshman classes, but I'm a freshman in the Geology department, so I can only take one of their classes a semester, just the basics. And in Spring Term I plan on taking just Calc 113. I have to have my calc out of the way before my sophomore year... I will also die that time too. But we believe in 2nd Resurrections right?
Sorry, back to this semester, I probably ended up with all B's in my classes. Some + some -. I think it's solid, since this is my first semester here, and I learned to work concurrently. next semester will be better. I promise.
Now to the Boys. No, there is no potential anywhere. Some have heard of different interests, but the last one was Spencer Bevan, from Salt Lake. Not an Idaho boy, so it was against fate. He is just really cool kid, but I don't think he's looking for girls that are friends, so he's stopped really talking to me. too bad. This is the boy that reminded me alot of Matt and Jeff. Oh well. New semester, and maybe a fresh crop of men. I do have to laugh. Since being here i have tripled my dating experiences since I've turned 16.But that really doesn't mean anything. But most have been fun times.
Christmas is just around the corner, I get to work the first week. So in other words, I'll be flying home on Christmas. What fun! I mean, what student is really going to come to the store this week? "oh! It's Christmas, I need to buy file folders and pens..." Yeah, I don't get it either. So it will be a thrilling four days at work this week.
Today I just got back from California. Stephanie "Graduated" from Disneyland, so I flew out to be with her. Steph's parents and Julia drove over from CG, so it was a real party. No, we did not go to Disneyland. I would have liked to, but we didn't plan our time that well. In fact we really didn't do anything except went to the beach. But I still had fun with Steph and Julia.
As I was getting to my area to wait for the plane this morning, this boy said that I look really familiar. I said that I just flew in this weekend, and he said "Did you fly in on Friday?" D-"Yes. What time was your flight?" RB(Random Boy)"I flew in from Salt Lake City at about 7:45am." D-" I was on that plane too." RB-" Yeah, I remember now. You sat on the other side of the plane." D-"Oh? where were you sitting?" RB-"right in front of the wing." D-" So in 7a (I sat in 7d)?" RB-"Yeah." D-" well, This is just a coincidence..." and we just sat and talked till we boarded our returning flight. I believe his name is John, he is from Rexburg, Idaho. Just graduated as a Nurse. Going to Alaska next weekend to work as a Nurse, and hopefully in two years, get a job down in Phoenix where his brother lives. He wants to become an Anaesthesiologist nurse. He is the youngest of 7 and went on a mission to Armenia. I would guess his age to be about 26. No he was not a stud, but he had decent looks.(just in case you were wondering). And if you are wondering if I got his number, I did not. that would just be awkward, and I probably won't ever see this kid again until Heaven. Besides, texting relationships are never are good. And I don't do too well talking on the phone. Anyway, it is just another witness how small the world is. Well, I've written enough for now. I'll do better next time I promise. and If you wanted to see pictures from my California trip, they are up on Facebook.

Baking for the Soul

Lately, I've had the passion to bake. Maybe it's the cold air or the fact that it's a wonderful experience to walk into an apartment that smells yummy with cake or cookies scent. But last week, Jennifer (Aka Jenn or Jen; it's debatable) had her 24 birthday and we as an apartment did not really plan for it. Luckily, I usually keep at least a brownie or a cake mix stashed away for times like these, so I whipped it out and made a cake after church. I found an icing recipe online which called for 5 ingredients: sugar, vanilla, butter, milk, and cocoa. You melt and then pour it over the cake. It was gone before the sun set on Monday.
This weekend, I baked mom's chocolate chip cookies and Baked Alaska. The cookies because I need to pay-off some people for their services rendered, and to leave on doorsteps. The Baked Alaska was actually for this Tie-Date activity our service committee put together. This boy's tie I picked up, actually didn't put his tie in. His roommates did. I decided to give the service but to not hold it to him for a date. The first was a chicken enchilada dinner. They were delicious and thanks Mel for the recipe. The second was a complete makeover for his car. We took it to a quarter wash, since our apartment has already taken in the hose for the winter, where I gave a quarter to a homeless man, and Jamie (one of my next door neighbors) helped a lady out of the dumpster gate. I ran out of idea's for the third service since that was the deal, I asked some of the men from our ward that I "chill" with sometimes and Jeff since he's on hand. But I was still stumped. So I sent Jamie over to his house and she couldn't leave until she got an answer from him on what I can do. He told her that I should make my favorite dessert. So I did. He was impressed and apparently ate half of the cake within half an hour. I told him that I'm not expecting a date, but he insisted. So maybe next Saturday we will go on a date. But I guess I put pressure on him because of the quality of service I gave him, he feels like he needs to make up for it...We'll see how it turns out.
I can't wait for Thanksgiving because I'm going to make a Potato Cake. These people don't know what they are missing, so it's my job to do the missionary work.

First day of Autumn/Winter.

What is the difference between Autumn and Winter? Where does one end and the other start?
This picture was taken September 3oth. It's only September, and there is already snow on the mountains. What have I gotten myself into?
I am enjoying the fall colors though. They are quite spectacular. This weekend I am going to hike up rock canyon which means I'll get up close and personal with the changing trees. Exciting.

The Prank: Part 2

We, Kayla and I, decided to end this spectacular prank, one because I was tired of lying and two, we just wanted it to end. So we created these last clues in a matter of days. On Wednesday night we created this note. My appreciation for those kidnappers/bad people that make signs and notes out of cut out newspaper clippings are my hero's. It took like three hours to clip and glue.

We found this little Johnny Depp puzzle that was left over from the previous tenants, so we drew the bulb on the back and wrote a note on the front. That night we gave a couple puzzle pieces and the cut out note. Over the next day and half we left puzzle pieces everywhere. Fully put together, it says
"The time has come for this to end
A pie will be the perfect stipend
And make it apple with a touch of glaze
It is crucial for this trading phase
Ten in the morn is the time to meet
You must wait for the place for us to greet." This is what we did while we waited. Exactly. Absolutely nothing.

And on the back we wrote "Octavus Platea Anas hold the truth". We didn't want it to be too easy so that is why half of the note is in Latin. We made this poster that I am rather proud of. I drew the duck and ducklings. We attached it to a tree at the duck pond and we waited. Well, apparently it was too hard for them, because they didn't show up. However there were two people that stopped and read it. One even came back and reread it. So we wait for an hour, and then head home. Our final thought was to never let them get it again, but I was tired of this prank so we decided to just go over that night and give them the special light and the duck poster.

Well, I still wanted my pie. And I know I had no leverage, but I warned them that something drastic might happen if I didn't get that pie. To impress upon them my meaning, I made a sign a week later and put it on their door. I am rather proud of it; it took an hour to cut out and make.

Finally, two weeks later, at 11:30 on Sunday night they brought over the pie. I was already going to bed, and one of my roommates, Becca, was asleep when they came over. They got Kayla, and then came up to our apartment with this pie. I decided to wake Becca because she wouldn't want to miss the pie eating. I get plates and she is starting to cut it. Before she dishes the pie out she takes a bite. We are all talking, when Becca looks at all the guys waiting for a sign. Matt finally smirks, and she says "This is supposed to taste disgusting right?" All the guys start laughing, and the rest of us catch on that the pie was sabotaged. Becca runs to the sink and washes out her mouth and I am crying because I'm laughing so hard. I should have known that it was rotten. I saw it when she cut into it, and it didn't look right for some reason, but know I know why. Dave -The Legend(ary cook) switched the sugar with salt. So Becca took the hit for Kayla and I and ate a bite of Salt pie.

This concludes the Blue Light Scandal, but it does not end the pranks. We will enact our revenge this weekend.

The Prank: Part 1

Sorry it's been awhile. Most of you have already heard a rendition of this, but now it comes with pictures.
All right, so on the 4th of September I was playing Nitendo with Kayla, one of my best friends up here, and we hear a ton of girl voices coming from outside her window. The window faces the parkinglot and door of some of the guys in our ward, Glen Haven 6/5. As we watch all the men leave from GH 6, I turned to her and suggested that we go steal their blue lightbulb. This is not any kind of blue lightbulb, they told us that they stole it from their last apartment complex, and it's kinda like a trophy. So, we go and replace it with one of our white ones. At 1:30, they finally come home and she and I run to her room and just watch what happens. First no one notices, until Jae comes out of the apartment and exclaims "Dude. Our light is gone.", Camon who was at the bottom of the stairs talking to a girl, "What!?" "Yeah, our blue light is gone. Someone stole it." "NOOOOOO!". Kayla and I are just laughing silently and high fiving.
We wait until Sunday night/Monday morning to do anything. And of course I was questioned about the whereabouts of their LB, but they had no proof, so I lied. (There was a lot of lying, because they thought it was me, but they had no solid proof.) Kayla and I got together sunday night and took pictures of the LB being turtured. And then at 7 am we stuck them to their door. This sounds easy, but someone was already up, and their stairs sometimes creak... So here are the beautiful pictures.

Later that morning, Tanis and I set up a ward soccer game and as I was writing a note for late comers, Camon comes and sits next to me and says "So, we firgured out who the culprit is." Me-"Really? Who was it?" C-"You." D-"Me? It's not me, if it was that would be hilarious, but I didn't do it." C-"But I saw you." D-"You saw me? When?" C-"I saw you last night. You were putting torturing pictures on our door." D-"I wasn't putting any pictures on your door last night." C-"Oh. It's not you?" D-"No. But I think this is really funny." C-"Oh well, you should come over and see the pictures that we found this morning. They are hilarious." D-" Okay." So once again, they fished and jumped to conclusions...

On Tuesday, I come home and on everydoor there is a white flyer. I walk up to my room and come to find out it is a wanted poster that they printed out and stuck on all 21 doors in Alpine Court. It's too hilarious to summarize so I have more pictures.

When I saw this I just busted out laughing, like side hurting eyes cryin kind.
Later that night, the girls from AC 17 gathered all of them up and then went and stuck them to GH 6 door. Well, they boys thought it was the culprit again, but this time it wasn't me.
Alright I need to go get some more pictures and I will fill you in about the grand finally soon.

School Supplies

Just a quick picture. This is just my new id. It's proof that I work at the bookstore for those that did not believe the good news; like me.

Excitement!

Most of you have already heard this, but maybe this will make it sink in. Well at least from my point of view. On Thursday afternoon, I had a call from a Provo number that I did not know. Confused, I answer. It turns out it is the secretary from the HR Office in the BYU Bookstore. I received the job I interviewed for earlier that week. I wasn't expecting the call since they said I would know on Friday. So I have orientation into the position at two on Tuesday. When I actually start is unknown to me, but my roommate who has worked there said she started the next day, which I'm totally cool with. My hours are from 7:45-10:45am and some saturdays (those hours are unknown too). I will most likely have to work through Thanksgiving, some of Christmas break, and President's day or something like that.
This means that I too will have to be back on monday, and can't leave for Casa Grande at 10am this friday like I wanted to for Jeff and Mel's reception. But what's forty-five more minutes?

Whew!

You all will be excited about this. No, I did get engaged. I mean, I haven't even been on a date! But. I did just have my first job interview, which I'm excited for. It's the position at the Bookstore on the School supplies level. (I think I'll like this job.) The interviewer, Leonard Something (I didn't catch the last name), was really nice and it wasn't tooth and nails to talk to him. It wasn't the best conversation, but it went well. That is till he asked me if I had questions...And I froze. I couldn't think of a single question to ask. I mean, it is a pretty straight forward job... Oh well, I'll know by Friday.
Oh and if this means anything, I checked online again about the job. The position I interviewed (7:45-10:45am) was gone... That either means I wowed him with my personality, or they have so many people applying for that time, that they had to take it off... Bummer.
Question: "What does Customer Service mean to you?"

True Gibson

For Family Home Evening this past Monday, our "family" combined with others and we played Ultimate Frisbee. I wasn't doing too well: My throwing needs help and they always seemed to think I was either taller than I really was or I run fast, either way they always out threw me. So when I was getting desperate, the frisbee was just out of reach, instinct kicked in and I threw myself towards that plastic disk. When I hit the ground, it wasn't to nice to me, I came away with bruises and scratches. The worst one is on my elbow, and I bruised my right ribs pretty badly. For those of you not showing pity but wondering if I attained my goal of catching the blasted thing. For your information, I did. However, the ground had no mercy and knocked it out of my hand during the landing. So yes I did catch it, but no I was not able to play it.
I continued playing since there was no gushing blood, and helped score the winning touchdown. All in all, my side won, and I even understand that some of the guys on the opposing team were in awe of my fantastic dive. So all in all, it was a very good game. The right is right after it happened and the Left is a week old. It will probably leave a nice scar.

Fourth of July

Long time, I know. So two weekends ago, Jeff and Mel invited me up to The Birds Nest (family cabin up in Idaho) over the 4th of July. It was fun, and the "cabin" had two buildings, a barn, horses, and a huge backyard. I was shocked at how big it was, since I grew up with Grandparent's Gibson and Larsen cabins (small to medium where houses are concerned). But, I loved it. We actually drove to Idaho Falls (Yes I thought of the Simpson's) where Grandpa Ray had his birthday (though it's really in December) which included a family reunion. I would like to tell everyone that I was not just a sack of potatoes that sat around being shy and doing nothing. I had very important role actually. My very hard and taxing job was to push the camera button to take the family picture. Phew. It was really hard.

This cute little kid, Jake, had a sucker (in his Left hand) that he was enjoying. Well as most of you can already assume, he was sticky. Very very Sticky. For some reason, he touched the grass and if you look closely, you can see grass blades sticking to his hand (right hand). He was staking his hand trying to get rid of it which is why his hand is up in the air. Even as I was taking these pictures, he dropped his sucker in the grass, grabbed it, and stuffed it grass and all into his mouth. He was then trying to spit out the grass which was now in his mouth.

After we cleaned up the party (7 pm), we started the family caravan (about 6 cars) headed west and then North to Donnelly (?). Around 2 am after 4 deer and an hour and a half riddle, we finally drove into the driveway of the cabin.

On the fourth, everyone was groggy (some of the kids stayed up the entire drive from Idaho Falls to Donnelly) and slept in. Well I did till about 10am. The entire day was pretty slow, but we did do the annual family Olympics. All the kids were able to participate, and ultimately I too ended up playing soccer. I didn't know my skills were so rusty! We were not able to go see the fireworks since the mosquito population was out to eat us alive. So we were content with watching old family video's in their home theater (!). Mel was SO cute when she was little!

Since the children weren't able to do the annual family parade we were able to do so on Sunday. After church, the kids started making preparations for the floats. This entales hooking up a four wheeler to a trailer and having everyone pile into the back dawned in floatation wear. Here is one of the cute ones, it's a Star Wars float. Jeff is so great. but my favorite is definately Darth Cheese-Grater Vader. There was another husband wearing a grill as a vest.

On Monday, Jeff and I headed home. We had quite and adventure in Boise. We added about 30 minutes to our overall trip just to see the hospital and capital building. What fun!? On the way, between Boise and Salt Lake, we passed a Jelly Belly truck. Jeff laughed when I snapped a picture. I mean, how often do you pass a Jelly Belly truck on the freeway? Now you see my point.

June 30th

Today, I decided to take Becky Creason's advice and went on a walk, to explore Provo (within walking distance of course). So my journey took me down University Ave. (south) East on Center and then north on 3rd E. All in all it was a nice day (a little warm, but not hot). Here are some of the pictures I took.

This is the tunnel that is on University Ave. They are building a new high rise which means the sidewalk is unusable, so this is where I walked.

This old sign is on Center St. It says "5 cent cigar".
Interesting.

An office building set up all these flags on their lawn (not all of them, I saw some still bundled together and leaning on the building. But it was pretty impressive to see. Everyone is getting ready for the fourth of July.

One place that I didn't take a picture of was this printing museum. It closed at 2, so I wasn't able to get inside. But one of these days I will go. It looks interesting.

Next is this house on 3rd E. I just liked it because of the architecture and the plants. The bird bath helped too.

Finally, this is for Jeff, but I guess there are two cherry tree's growing on 3rd E. I was pretty amazed since I have never seen cherry trees, not to mention ones that aren't apart of orchards.

Work...not yet

Thank you to everyone that is answering my question about job searching and applying etiquette. I know I sound down, which I am, but I understand it will take time. Just how much time?
I let two pass by, one was a delivery truck driver. It only would allow for 15 hours at 7.25 pay (which is not bad, it's the time clock that I let it go). The other is a donut cake froster. This one would be perfect. But it is only for 9 hours which is pretty pointless. I might as well give massages for five minutes at two dollars a pop; three for ten minutes. But I don't think they allow side businesses in apartments. Or I could be a consultant for Mary Kay or something. Oy! I'm just getting a little bored being attached to my laptop 20/7 just waiting to see if any new jobs open up.

My new best friend

This is the new addition to my room. I am actually sitting right in front of it right now. It's blissful. Ahhh... Jeff was able to give me a ride to Wally World where I was able to get this box fan for 15 dollars. And I am loving it! Who needs boys when you've got a fan? Just kidding. I mean it would be weird if I tried to get married to a fan... I'd get strange looks.
My roommate also appriciates this new friend. She walked in after class and said, "Wow! it's way cooler in here. Thanks for buying a fan Dana." Okay so maybe she didn't say that word for word, but it was close.
